Top 5 Stretches For A Better Nights Sleep

 


Everyday activities like sitting at a desk or standing for long periods of time can often leave our bodies feeling stiff and achy, particularly in the back and neck. Stretch out those aches and pains with some of our favourite nighttime stretches.


Neck Stretches 

Relieve tension in your head, neck and shoulders with some neck stretches. With your back straight either standing or sitting in a chair, take your left hand to the top of your head.


Gently bring your left ear towards your left shoulder and take a few deep breaths, gently stretching. Repeat on the opposite side, now straighten and bring your chin down to your chest holding for a few deep breaths.

Seated Forward Bend 

Relieve tension in your spine shoulder and lower back with a seated forward bend.


Sit with your legs extended out in front of you. Lengthen your spine and press your sit bones into the floor. Reach out your arms in front of you bringing your hands to your toes. Relax your head bringing your chin into your chest. Hold for a few deep breaths

Reclining Bound Angle Pose

Open and relieve tension in the hips and groin. This stretch is good for those sitting at desks for long periods of the day. 


While seated on the floor, bring the soles of your feet together bringing your knees out. Lean your back on your hands to bring your back, neck and head to the floor. Focus on relaxing your hips and thighs, breathing deeply. Hold for a few deep breaths

Knee To Chest

Relieve those lower back aches with some knee to chest stretches. 

Laying on the floor, lift and bend one leg towards you. Gently place both hands on your knee, and bring towards your chest. Hold for a few deep breaths and alternate with the other leg. You can also bring both legs to your chest at the same time.

Bear Hug 


Give yourself a little love while relaxing your shoulders and arms. 


Start with arms stretched wide and wrap them around yourself like you are giving yourself a big hug. Grasping your shoulders, pull to deepen the stretch. Hold for a few breaths and repeat alternating which arm is on top.
